Lake Norman Info

Lake Norman is located in North Carolina, just north of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Lake Norman area is comprised of several town surrounding the Lake. Typically, the area that is referred to includes the town of Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson and parts of Mooresville on the eastern side of the lake and the eastern portions of Lincoln County and Catawba county on the west side of the lake.

Because of its proximity to #77 and the now mostly completed #485 loop, Lake Norman is also in commuting distance from Charlotte which makes a very popular and convenient area to live and play.

The real estate market in Lake Norman includes a variety of different options. From grand lake view homes at the Peninsula in Cornelius and The Point in Mooresville, to homes on golf courses, charming homes in the college town of Davidson to more rural properties in central Iredell and Rowan County as well as Catawba and Lincoln County.

So no matter if you are looking for an exclusive lakefront home, a home in a nice convenient neighborhood that has all the amenities and a close proximity to the lake and Charlotte or if you wan to live more rural on a larger acreage; all can be found in the Lake Norman and surrounding areas.

Lake Norman Facts:

Lake Norman was created between '59 and '64 by Duke Energy as part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam and is fed by the Catawba River. It got his name from Duke's president Norman Cocke. Lake Norman has an incredible 520 miles of shoreline.

Lake Norman is boarded by NC Highway 16 on the west, Interstate 77 on the east, NC Highway 150 to the north and the 73 to the sough.

Lake Norman powers the generators at the Cowans Ford Dam and is used to cool the the steam that drives the turbines at the Marshall Steam Station and the McGuire Nuclear Station. It also supplies water to Charlotte, Mooresville, Lincoln County, Davidson, Huntersville and more.

Lake Norman first developed into a recreational area with fishing and water sports, cabins and vacation homes. With the Interstate 77 brought easier access to the Lake, the towns surrounding Lake Norman quickly developed into desirable areas and communities with an easy driving commute to Charlotte

The only public access beach on Lake Norman is located at Lake Norman State Park in Troutman
at exit 42 off #77.
